About Toto
The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. Their name is derived from the Latin word which means "all inclusive," the group was intent on exploring all styles of music.
The third album from Toto, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However they came back with their fourth album, Isolation, which contained two hit songs including the title track and Roseanna. The album and the tour established them as a brand around the world.
After a break of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. The album is an departure from the ballads that were featured on previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. The album was their first to go platinum in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and is faced with financial difficulties. They decide to change their name and make a new album using an entirely new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band a much-needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a massive worldwide tour. After a few weeks in Europe The band then travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring band includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest along with keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

In 2008, Toto decided to take the time off from touring due to changes to the lineup and a series of disappointing releases. The group returned to touring in 2012 following the release of the album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album was a return form for the band and the tour was accompanied by sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion gained momentum with the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
