About Toto
Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also acclaimed studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every musical style.
The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hits, including the title song and Roseanna. The album and their tour made them a household brand all over the world.
After a short hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is an departure from the ballads on previous albums, and features some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and are financially in trouble. They decide to record a new album and change their name an alternative producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as lead singer. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman and provides the band with a much-needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a major tour across the globe. After a few weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer’s song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's performance in Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest, as well as keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

The original members were joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.

In 2008, a string lineup changes as well as a series of disappointing albums led Toto to call it quits for a period of time. The group returned to the road in 2012 following the release of their album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album marked a return to form for the group and the tour supported it with sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was helped by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, who both joined the band.
